Weeks 6 & 7

Read: Chapters 5 and 6.

In this two-week cycle you will explore different rubrics, have your students do some scientific writing and apply a rubric to the student writing. As you read these chapters, identify some pieces of student writing in which they explain themselves scientifically.You will use these pieces for the second week of this two-week cycle.

Plan for Application (post by the end of week 6): Tell us what writing your students will be doing and which rubric(s) you will likely use. How is the rubric you selected different or similar to ones you are currently using? What might be some benefits and challenges of using the rubrics in the chapter?

Apply: Put the rubric(s) you selected to work by analyzing some of your student’s writing.

Reflect on Your Experience (post by the end of week 7 by replying to your Plan of Application Post): How did the rubric(s) help you uncover students' thinking and understanding? What did you discover?

Interact: Don’t forget to respond to another participant’s plan or reflection by the end of this two-week cycle.
